Extending the Win Streak

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 16 Stanford extended its win streak to 12 after beating both Boise State (4-2) and Michigan (3-1) on Sunday on the final day of the Stanford Invitational.

Against Boise State, Alana Vawter (6-1) went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out nine for Stanford (13-2). Junior Regan Krause (3-1) picked up the victory in the circle against Michigan. The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

At the start of the day against Boise State, sophomore Allie Clements led the way offensively for the Cardinal with her first career home run. Junior Caelan Koch compiled a noteworthy performance, recording two RBI. Senior Taylor Gindlesperger also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Stanford with a double.

In the batter's box facing the Wolverines, the Cardinal were paced by senior Emily Schultz, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Gindlesperger also went 2-for-3 with a double. Junior Aly Kaneshiro also contributed for Stanford, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinal were trailing 1-0 after the top of the first, but Koch responded with a two-RBI single up the middle, followed by an RBI double from Kaitlyn Lim.

The Broncos then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-2 until the Cardinal expanded their advantage in the sixth. Stanford picked up a run off of Clements' two-out solo home run which brought the Cardinal lead to 4-2. The defense kept the Broncos from scoring to get the win.

GAME NOTES

» Vawter struck out nine Broncos hitters.
» Stanford grabbed a 3-1 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» The Cardinal out-hit the Broncos at a 7-5 clip.

GAME 2: STAN 3, MICH 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Cardinal finally responded in the bottom of the fifth when Kaneshiro found the first base line, scoring senior Emily Young from second base.

Stanford took the lead in the sixth, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Schultz, which brought the score to 3-1. Stanford held on to the win in the seventh, shutting down all three batters.

Stanford will host UC Davis in a mid-week matchup on Wednesday. The Cardinal will then host the DeMarini Invitational for the weekend.
