Stanford, Calif. -
The Stanford University women's water polo team has received three National Letters of Intent from Lauren Boreta (Santa Barbara, CA), Laurel Champion (Palo Alto, CA) and Scotti Shafer (Carlsbad, CA) announced head coach John Tanner today.
"These three athletes are fast, intelligent and tenacious players who can quickly adapt to elite level college water polo," said Tanner. "They have some high level competitive experience and the desire to make an immediate impact in our program."
Boreta, a 5-10 driver and two-meter offense, hails from Santa Barbara High School. She is also a member of the United States Youth Team, and was named a First-Team CIF Southern Section Division III selection. Boreta won the Channel League MVP in 2000 as well.
Champion is a member of the US National Youth Team and a two-time First-Team All-Central Coast Section pick as a driver. She has also been named a US Water Polo All-American. Since 1997, Champion has been a member of Stanford's Water Polo Club Team.
Shafer, a driver, will compete at the Junior World Championships in Perth, Australia, next month as a member of the US National Youth Team. She was also a First-Team All-CIF selection as a junior, in addition to being a high school and US Water Polo All-American.
