Stanford, Calif. -
The Stanford Women's Water Polo team will host the annual Alumni Game this weekend, taking on some of Stanford's greatest all-time players as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. The match is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Avery Aquatic Center.
More than 20 individuals will be coming to compete, from those who played club water polo and helped start the team in 1978 to those who graduated just last year. Included in the alumni will be members of the class of 2001, the first freshman class under John Tanner and Susan Ortwein. As seniors, the class led Stanford to its only undefeated regular-season in history and finished second at the NCAA Championships. Returning for their five-year reunion, the class includes Ali Riddell, Hilary Gallogly, Alli Henry, Anne-Marie Keenan, Kelly Shouey, Kris Calamity Koblik and Dani Bell.
The Cardinal is preparing for another successful season after last year's MPSF Championship and third place finish in the NCAA Tournament. Returners include 2006 All-Americans Katie Hansen, Christina Hewko and Meridith McColl as well as senior Alison Gregorka and MPSF Newcomer of the Year Lauren Silver.
The Cardinal will play a Scrimmage tournament next month at Stanford, November 12, for more pre-season activity. The regular-season begins February 2, when the Cardinal takes on the University of Hawaii at Avery.
