Five current and former Cardinal players named to roster, a sixth named alternate

USA Water Polo Announces Pan-American Games Roster

STANFORD, Calif. - Six current and former Stanford women's water polo players were named to the U.S. Pan-American Games roster announced by USA Water Polo this week. Brenda Villa '03, Jessica Steffens '10, Melissa Seidemann '13, Annika Dries '14 and Maggie Steffens '15 were all named to the full roster, while Lauren Silver '09 was named an alternate.

The 2011 Pan-American Games are set to take place Oct. 23-29 in Guadalajara, Mexico. The event serves as the U.S. team's first chance to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The winning nation of the Pan-American Games water polo tournament will earn an automatic berth into the 2012 Olympic Games. Non-winners will get a second chance to qualify for the Games in an Olympic Qualification Tournaemnt set to be held April 15-22, 2012 in Italy.

The roster named by USA Water Polo is the same group that took sixth place at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China this past July.
