STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center will play host to the opening contest of the U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo team's four-game "Lunging To London" exhibition series against Hungary Monday, July 2 at 6 p.m. PT.
Tickets for the event are available at the link at the top of this page. General admission tickets are $20 while the VIP package runs for $125.
The contest will feature five current and former Stanford women's water polo players playing for the U.S. squad in front of the home crowd at Avery Aquatic Center. Graduated stars Brenda Villa '03, the U.S. captain, and Jessica Steffens '10 return to The Farm along with current Cardinal team members Melissa Seidemann '13, Annika Dries '14 and Maggie Steffens '16.
Four years ago, Avery Aquatic Center hosted an Olympic tune-up exhibition between the U.S. and Australia, drawing a crowd of 2,926, the largest crowd to witness a women's water polo contest on American soil. The U.S. captured a 7-5 victory over the Australians in the contest as part of the "Blastoff To Beijing" series.
July 2's contest opens up the four-game series with Olympic opponent Hungary, which is also in Group A for the Olympic tournament. The two nations will face off in the first round of contests in London on July 30.
The series will wrap on July 8 at Corona del Mar High School in a nationally-televised game on NBC Sports Network. The teams will also play on July 4 at the USA Water Polo National Training Center in Los Alamitos, CA and July 6 at a location to be determined.
