2012 FINA Women's World League Super Final Results

CHANGSHU, China - Stanford's five Olympians played a big role in helping the U.S. Women's Water Polo Olympic Team capture the gold medal with a 6-4 win over Australia Sunday at the FINA Women's World League Super Final.

Annika Dries '14 and Maggie Steffens '16 each scored twice and U.S. captain Brenda Villa '03 added a goal in the final victory, as the United States completed a perfect 6-0 run at the event.

Stanford's Olympians powered the U.S. on both ends of the pool. On offense, the Cardinal quintet accounted for over half of the team's total scoring, netting 34 of the 62 U.S. goals.

Maggie Steffens led the way amongst Cardinal Olympians with 10 goals over the competition, followed by Dries and Villa who each netted eight goals. Melissa Seidemann accounted for six goals while Jessica Steffens, a defensive stalwart for the U.S., added a pair of goals in a group play win over Germany.

Stanford fans will have a chance to see the Cardinal quintet in action with the U.S. Olympic Team at Avery Aquatic Center on July 2, as The Farm plays host to the opener of a four-game exhibition series between the U.S. and Hungary.

The U.S. opens play at the 2012 Olympic Games in London July 30. The Americans will be placed in Group A for preliminary play along with China, Hungary and Spain.
