Christina Hewko and Katie Hansen lead Stanford's All-American Selections
June 1, 2007 Laguna Hills, CA - Katie Hansen and Christina Hewko were named 1st team All-Americans and were two of the five Cardinal student athletes named as All-Americans by the Association of Water Polo Coaches on Friday. For Hansen, it is the third time she has been named an All-American and the second time she has been named First Team All-American. Hansen tied for the team lead in goals with 64. She was also a named a Secon-Team All-American as a sophomore in 2005. Christina Hewko became a four-time All-American and a First Team All-American for the second time on Friday. She also was a First-Team All-American as a sophomore in 2005. Hewko was a Second-Team All-American in 2006 as a junior and was an Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2004. Alison Gregorka earned Second-Team All-American honors as well for her play in the two-meter zone. This is Gregorka's first time as an All-American after being placed on the All-Academic team three times. Meridith McColl was also placed on the Second Team after leading the Cardinal to a 27-3 overall record in net. This is McColl's third time on the Second Team after achieving the feat as a junior in 2006 and a sophomore in 2005. Lauren Silver followed up her 52-goal freshman campaign by scoring 64 as a sophomore and tying for the team lead. This earned her Third-Team All-American honors after being named an Honorable Mention All-American as a freshman in 2006. Stanford's five All-Americans gave them the second most nationally, placing them only behind national champion UCLA who had seven athletes on All-American teams.
