STANFORD, Calif. -
For the third time this season, No. 2 Stanford women's water polo claimed the KAP 7 MPSF Newcomer of the Week honor, as two-meter Ashley Grossman took the prize Monday.
Grossman scored five goals over Stanford's wins against No. 19 Long Beach State and No. 8 UC Irvine this past weekend.
The goals increased Grossman's total this season to 26, second-most on the squad. Her 2.00 goals per game average is also tied for fifth in the MPSF.
Saturday against Long Beach State, Grossman scored twice as the Cardinal cruised to a 14-4 win. She then followed up with a hat trick Sunday, scoring three goals in a 17-5 win over UC Irvine.
She is Stanford's third newcomer of the week this year. Fellow rookie Kiley Neushul captured the honor Jan. 30 and Feb. 27.
Second-ranked Stanford heads to the tropics later this week, visiting Hawai'i for an MPSF contest Saturday, March 10 at 8 p.m. PT.
