Ahead for the Cardinal...
The top-ranked Stanford Cardinal (7-0, 2-0 MPSF) will travel south for the UCSB Gaucho Invitational this weekend. The Cardinal will begin the two-day tournament with a 9 a.m. match against UC Santa Cruz and will face #10 San Jose State or #8 Hawai'i later in the afternoon (1:40 p.m. if Stanford wins its first game and 2:50 if it loses). Stanford will play both of its Saturday games in the Rec Center pool. Game times and opponents for Sunday will be determined by Saturday's records.

Previously on The Farm...
Stanford opened conference play with two wins over top-ten teams this past weekend. On Friday, the Cardinal hosted No. 3 UCLA for the second time this year and posted a 5-3 win over the Bruins. Cardinal keeper Jackie Frank collected 14 saves in Stanford's MPSF season opener. The following day, the tenth-ranked UCSB Gauchos left Avery with an 8-2 loss as the Cardinal won its seventh game of the 2003 season. Brenda Villa tallied three goals while freshman Erica Wilson netted her first (and second) collegiate goal.

MPSF Honors...
Senior goalie Frank was tabbed the MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week after helping the Cardinal to two wins this weekend. Frank collected 23 saves in the two games and held the Bruins to three goals and limited the Gauchos to two scores. On the season, Frank is averaging 8.9 saves per game and allowing only 2.1 goals per game.

Captains' Corner...
Seniors Gardner and Nicole Huszcz are leading the Cardinal this year as co-captains. In their final campaign on The Farm, both will look to make their last season their best season. The tandem has combined for nine of the team's 60 goals as the Cardinal earned its first seven wins. Gardner opened the season with a two goal showing against UC Davis on Feb. 2nd before posting one goal against California and one goal during each match against UCLA. Huszcz has netted one goal against UC Davis, San Jose State, Indiana and UCSB.

National Team File...
Frank and Villa, Stanford's other two players in their final collegiate campaign, spent their off-season with the National Team and helped the U.S. to a silver medal at the 2002 FINA Cup in Perth Australia this past December. Frank led all keepers in goals allowed average and saves while Villa led the tournament in scoring with nine goals. The duo matched up against their U.S. teammates last Saturday when Stanford fell to the National Team 7-3 at the Avery Aquatic Center.

Statistical File...
Fourteen different members of the Stanford squad have notched at least one goal in the first seven games of the 2003 season. The Cardinal has out-scored opponents by an average of 5.9 goals per game. Stanford has limited opponents to 19 goals this season (2.7 gpg) with the tough defense by both the field players and the goalkeepers. Frank and freshman Amanda Matuk have combined for 10.4 saves per game in the net. On the offensive side, Villa leads the team with 13 goals this season while Hannah Luber follows with seven and Gardner, Lauren Faust and Wendy Watkins each trail with five.
