STANFORD, Calif. - As the top-ranked Stanford women's water polo team gets ready to head down to Irvine for the UCI Invitational this weekend, The Cardinal Channel and GoStanford.com take a look back at the team's Caltrain trip to last Saturday's game at Santa Clara University.
In a tradition started two years ago, the Cardinal once again went green for its game at Santa Clara, taking the Caltrain from Palo Alto to the Mission Campus last Saturday.
The team met at the Palo Alto Caltrain station early Saturday afternoon, taking train No. 430 at 1:17 p.m. and arriving at the Santa Clara station 26 minutes later.
After a short walk across the street to the Santa Clara campus, and to the Broncos' Sullivan Aquatic Center, the Cardinal prepared for the 3 p.m. contest.
Freshman goalie Emily Dorst made her first collegiate start, stopping six shots in the win.
Following the contest, the Cardinal enjoyed a postgame lunch with family and fans by the pool before making the short walk back to the Santa Clara station. There, the Cardinal players caught some postgame shut-eye on the No. 441 train back to Palo Alto.
Stanford makes a slightly longer journey this weekend, flying down to Irvine for the UCI Invitational. The Cardinal opens the draw at 9 a.m. Saturday against UC San Diego at Corona del Mar High School.
