STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford women's water polo claimed the MPSF Mikasa Newcomer of the Week honor for the third straight week as the conference announced that freshman goalie Kate Baldoni took home the award on Monday.
Baldoni made the start in No. 1 Stanford's 10-4 victory at San Jose State on Saturday. The Newport Beach native handled cage duties in the first half and allowed just two goals and made a save as Stanford got out to a 4-2 lead.
Monday's honor makes Baldoni the third Stanford freshman to win the Newcomer of the Week honor, following Annika Dries and Victoria Kennedy.
On the year, Baldoni has seen action in seven contests, and is making 4.00 saves per game along with a conference-leading 2.86 goals-against average.
No. 1 Stanford heads out of the Bay Area for the first time this season over the coming weekend, traveling to Irvine for the UCI Invitational. Baldoni and Kennedy, high school teammates at Corona del Mar High School, will join the top-seeded Cardinal as it takes on UC San Diego this Saturday morning, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m. at their alma mater.
