STOCKTON, Calif. -
Junior two-meter Melissa Seidemann paced the high octane Stanford offense with four goals Sunday afternoon in a 15-4 Cardinal victory over No. 19 Pacific in Stockton.
The Walnut Creek native netted all four of her goals in the first half, and scored three times in Stanford's six-goal second period which put the Cardinal (9-0) in firm control with a 10-2 halftime advantage.
Kaley Dodson and Annika Dries each scored twice in the win for Stanford, while additional goals were added by Vee Dunlevie, Jillian Garton, Victoria Kennedy, Kim Krueger, Alyssa Lo, Kaitlyn Lo and Pallavi Menon.
Kate Baldoni made seven saves on the defensive end.
Stanford got out to a quick 3-0 lead against the Tigers behind goals from Alyssa Lo, Dries and Dodson Sunday. Dara Tawarahara pulled one back for Pacific, but Seidemann netted her first of the day with just over a minute left in the period to give the Cardinal a 4-1 lead.
Seidemann's goal started a 5-0 run for the Cardinal that stretched into the second frame, as Stanford's lead got up to 8-1 before Pacific snapped the streak. Yet Krueger and Dries answered with goals to make it 10-2 at the break.
Five second-half goals, along with a defensive effort that allowed just two more to the Tigers the rest of the way, carried the Cardinal to its ninth victory of the season.
Top-ranked Stanford next travels to Irvine for next weekend's UCI Invitational, set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27. The Cardinal opens up tournament action Saturday morning at 9 a.m. against CS Bakersfield.
