Women's Water Polo Takes Third at UCSD Invitational




Feb. 13, 1998

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Stanford women's water polo team placed third at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, defeating UC Santa Barbara 9-5. Seven different Cardinal found the back of the net in the victory, paced by sophomore Ellen Estes' (Novato, CA/Novato HS) three goals.

Stanford (3-1) suffered its first loss of the young season in the semifinals, losing narrowly to California 7-6. Cal jumped out to 3-0 by the end of the first quarter but the Cardinal rallied to within 4-3 by the half. Falling back 6-4 with one quarter remaining, the Cardinal rallied again but fell short. Estes again led the Stanford scoring attack with three goals.
