Logan Tom '03, Ogonna Nnamani '05 and Kerri Walsh '00 To Represent Stanford Volleyball In Beijing

Former Stanford volleyball players Logan Tom '03, Ogonna Nnamani '05 and Kerri Walsh '00 have all secured spots to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in Beijing next month. Tom and Nnamani were named to the indoor roster that was announced today, while Walsh and partner Misty May-Treanor qualifed on the beach with the world's highest Olympic qualifying point total.

Four current and former Stanford players competed in the FIVB World Grand Prix final round for the U.S. Women's National Team last week, and wrapped up the event with a fourth-place finish today. The team won two of its five matches in the finals to match its world ranking (No. 4) and take fourth in the 12-team event.

Stanford rising seniors Foluke Akinradewo and Cynthia Barboza, along with alumni Logan Tom and Kristin Richards, have been named to the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the last preliminary weekend of the FIVB World Grand Prix. The U.S. has won five straight matches and takes a 5-1 record into the final set of pool play matches in Taipei this weekend.

With the help of four current and former Stanford players, the U.S. Women's National Team claimed three more wins this weekend as part of the 2008 FIVB World Grand Prix. Competing in the second weekend of pool play in Wroclaw, Poland, the U.S. topped Thailand, the Dominican Republic and Poland.

USA Volleyball Announces Olympic Preliminary Roster

Five current and former Stanford players were among the 19 names on the Olympic preliminary roster submitted by USA Volleyball yesterday. Rising seniors Foluke Akinradewo and Cynthia Barboza join former Cardinal greats Logan Tom '03, Kristin Richards '07 and Ogonna Nnamani '05 on the list. Only players on the preliminary roster are eligible for the final 12-player Olympic Games roster, which will be announced in mid-July with United States Olympic Committee confirmation to follow.
