You listed one of your hobbies as cooking. What is your favorite thing to make? Any disasters? How often are you able to do it?
More I wish! Unfortunately, getting access to a kitchen is quite difficult now that I am living in a dorm, but I am always looking for ways to try new recipes. I absolutely love baking - who doesn't love baked goods, they are so tasty! I make some killer cinnamon sugar cookies and omelets - completely opposite ends of the cooking spectrum. As far as cooking disasters, probably the worst thing I've done is added salt instead of sugar for a baking recipe. They look completely the same in the containers we use at home, and needless to say, those cookies didn't come out so well!
What's the best vacation you've ever taken?
The best vacation I have ever taken was to Europe this past summer. I went with two of my best friends from high school and we traveled to Barcelona, Florence, Berlin, Prague, and Paris. All of the cities were so amazing and completely different from anywhere in the US. The people, the history, the food, and the overall atmosphere were so distinct in each city and it was so much fun exploring these incredibly remarkable places with my best friends. We had quite the experience trying to talk with the locals though, as none of us spoke any of the languages. I definitely made a fool of myself in Berlin and Prague, but I'm sorry, have you ever tried to speak German, or Czech? It's hard! But, it was an amazing trip and one that I hope do again someday!
Anything you're "addicted to" or spend a lot of time doing?
There are a lot of things I am addicted to - sushi, chocolate, coffee, House, Gossip Girl, yoga, and the beach. Greatest of all though, I am obsessed with fruit. I think I could live on blueberries - my mom and dad tell me all the time that I am going to turn into one and I wouldn't doubt it. I am definitely guilty of going to Whole Foods or Farmer's Market with no intention of actually buying anything, and going solely to mooch all the free samples. It's terrible, but I'm obsessed.
When did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing volleyball in fourth grade for Palisades Volleyball Club - my shining years as an outside hitter. After I saw the uniforms that Sunshine Volleyball Club got to wear (turquoise spandex and pink uniforms) I started playing for them, and did so until my freshman year of high school. I then moved to Santa Monica Beach Club where, my senior year, I was coached by Nabil Mardini - an incredible coach and mentor who taught me more than I thought possible and has had an incredible influence on me both on and off the court.
Describe something you're NOT good at.
Well my teammates will tell you that I am terrible at being on time, which is a very, very unfortunate thing. And a recent development! I think it's because I am the world's BEST sleeper - I don't hear any alarms and you have to literally shake me to wake me up. I was late three times on our road trip this summer, and during the first week of classes, got completely lost and showed up late to class, red in face, sweating, coffee all over my shirt - a complete disaster and total "freshman".
