STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior setter Karissa Cook has been named one of the top-30 candidates for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced today. Cook is one of five representatives from the Pac-12 Conference.
Cook has competed in 14 sets this season, averaging 8.86 assists and 2.57 digs per set. She was selected to the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational All-Tournament team in August.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship, which will take place December 13 and 15 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Cardinal heads to Salt Lake City this weekend to take on the Utah Utes on Friday, Sept. 21. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT from the Huntsman Center.
