STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford setter Madi Bugg has been selected the Pac-12 women's volleyball Freshman of the Week for Sept. 3-9, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Bugg controlled the Cardinal offense as the team went 3-0 in the Stanford Invitational last weekend. The Apex, N.C., native averaged 11.40 assists, 3.20 digs and 1.20 blocks per set. She also tallied 2.00 points and 0.90 kills per set while registering a .429 attack percentage. For her efforts, she was named to the all-tournament team.

Against Santa Clara on Friday, Bugg collected 28 assists, six digs and a career high five blocks in the Stanford sweep. In a four-set win over Loyola (Chi.), the rookie tallied 48 assists, 13 digs and a career-best five kills. She followed that performance up with 38 assists and 13 digs in the tournament championship win over Pacific. Her two double-doubles on Saturday brought her season total to four, which leads the team.

Bugg is receiving her first weekly honor from the conference and is the first Cardinal player to be recognized during the 2012 season. It also marks the first weekly freshman honor for Stanford in program history (weekly freshman honors began during the 2011 season).

The seventh-ranked Cardinal plays host to San Francisco on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Stanford also travels to Moraga, Calif., for a match at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
