No. 4 Stanford Sweeps Oregon State
STANFORD, Calif. --- Senior Kristin Folkl (St. Louis, MO/St. Josephs Academy) had 21 kills and 14 digs to lead fourth-ranked Stanford University (11-2 overall, 2-0 in the Pac-10) to a 15-4, 15-2, 15-10 win over visiting Oregon State University (7-7, 0-3) on Friday night at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal is now 25-0 all-time against the Beavers.
Folkl dominated the match, recording just three errors and the 21 kills in 37 attempts. Senior Barbara Ifejika (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Mayfield Secondary) added 11 digs and nine kills, and senior Lisa Sharpley (Los Altos, CA/Los Altos HS) added 32 assists. The Cardinal took control early and never looked back after jumping out to a 6-2 lead in game one and a 14-1 advantage in game two.
Senior Pia Ahlengard (Sollentuna, Sweden/Stockholm Univ.) and senior Heather Lowe (Cypress, CA/Santa Clara University) had eight kills apiece to lead the Beavers.
The Cardinal, winners of six straight, next hosts the University of Oregon on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
