Stanford Defeats Arizona to Clinch Fourth Straight Pac-10 Title
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Third-ranked and defending national champion Stanford clinched its
fourth-straight Pac-10 title by sweeping No. 12 Arizona, 15-5, 15-6,
15-6, here Sunday afternoon. Stanford improved to 24-2, 15-0 in the league, with its
19th consecutive victory. Arizona dropped to 17-5 and 9-5.
Stanford was led by
All-American senior Kristin Folkl who recorded 14 kills and 12 digs and sophomore
Kerri Walsh who hit .429 (12-3-21). Overall, the Cardinal outhit Arizona
.436-.195.
For the Wildcats, senior outside hitter Carrie Penfield had 12 kills and
senior setter Michaela Ebben tallied 35 assists.
