No. 3 Stanford Wins 20th Straight

Cardinal Defeats No. 16 Washington 3-0

STANFORD, CA --- Senior Kristin Folkl (St. Louis, MO/St. Josephs Academy) had 23 kills to lead No. 3 Stanford (25-2 overall, 16-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference) to a 15-12, 15-7, 15-9 win over No. 16 Washington (15-9, 10-5) before 2,585 fans on Friday night at Maples Pavilion. The win was Stanford's 20th in a row, and 34th straight Pac-10 home victory.

Folkl hit .372 (23 K-7 E-43 TA), and also added 10 digs for the Cardinal, which clinched the Pac-10 title last Sunday. Senior setter Lisa Sharpley (Los Altos, CA/Los Altos HS) added 50 assists and nine digs and sophomore Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, CA/Archbishop Mitty HS) contributed 11 kills, eight digs and six blocks. Stanford outhit Washington .281-.167, and outblocked the Huskies 10-8. Washington came into the match as the top blocking team in the conference at 4.03 per game.

Senior Amy Tutt (West Vancouver, B.C./West Vancouver HS) had 17 kills and nine digs for the Huskies, while senior Makare Desilets (Vancouver, B.C./St. Patrick's HS) added 12 kills and six digs.

Stanford returns to action on Saturday night when it hosts No. 12 Washington State at 7 p.m.
