Stanford Defeats Washington

Seattle - The No. 4-ranked Stanford volleyball team got a good fight from No. 21 Washington, but still picked up its ninth Pac-10 win Saturday night, 3-0, before 2,455 fans at Hec Edmundson Pavillion. Game scores were 15-8, 15-13, 15-12.

The Cardinal (18-2 overall, 9-0 Pac-10) completed the first half of the conference schedule with a flawless record, and only lost one game during that time, sweeping all but one match. The Huskies fell to 6-3 in league, 11-7 overall.

Kristin Folkl recorded 24 kills for the Cardinal to lead all players. Amy Tutt's 14 kills paced the Huskies and Makare Desilets added 13. The Cardinal out-blocked the Huskies, 16-12, only the third time this year any team has accomplished that against the UW, the NCAA's top blocking team.

The Huskies had their chances in all three games. They led game one, 5-0, and in game two, the Huskies were ahead 13-9 before Stanford ripped off six straight for the win.

Washington next travels to Los Angeles to face USC and UCLA next weekend.
