#4 Stanford Downs #15 Arizona 3-1
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team defeated 15th-ranked Arizona 3-1 (15-11, 15-12, 11-15, 15-8) before a season-high home crowd of 2,502 in Maples Pavilion. With the win, their 10th straight, the Cardinal improved to 15-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Pac-10. Arizona fell to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Stanford senior outside hitter Kristin Folkl paced the Cardinal with a match-high 23 kills, her fifth 20-plus kill performance of the season. Sophomore middle blocker Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, CA/Archbishop Mitty HS) added a season-high 22 kills while senior setter Lisa Sharpley (Los Altos, CA/Los Altos HS) posted a season-high 62 assists. Michelle Fanger and Carolyn Penfield led the Wildcats with 15 kills apiece.
Stanford returns to action tomorrow night, Saturday, October 11, when they take on Arizona State at 7:00 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
