STANFORD, Calif. - In a complete team effort, the No. 7 Stanford women's volleyball team swept Oregon State, 25-19, 25-14, 25-14, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal improves to 14-2 overall and 6-0 in the Pac-12, while the Beavers drop to 12-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Stanford was led by freshman middle blocker Inky Ajanaku's 10 kills. The rookie turned in a .562 hitting percentage and added two blocks. Sophomores Lydia Bai and Morgan Boukather and freshman Jordan Burgess each registered seven kills for the Cardinal, while junior middle blocker Carly Wopat finished with six kills and five blocks.
Senior Karissa Cook and freshman Madi Bugg split time at setter. Cook tallied 16 assists and seven digs, while Bugg totaled 24 assists, nine digs and two kills. Sophomore libero Kyle Gilbert registered 20 digs, marking her fifth 20-plus digs match this season. As a team, Stanford hit .303 and limited OSU to a .041 clip.
Stanford led for the entire first set, securing a 25-19 victory. Neither team hit well offensively as the Cardinal posted a .188 attack percentage and the Beavers hit .055. Stanford's defense was solid, picking up 28 digs and five blocks. Ajanaku and Wopat led the Cardinal will four kills apiece. Burgess added three kills, while Wopat recorded three blocks. Gilbert led the defense with nine digs. For the Beavers, Laura Schaudt tallied three kills, while libero Becky Defoe picked up 13 digs.
The Cardinal ramped up its offense in the second, cruising to a 25-14 win. The score was close early, but an 8-0 run by Stanford behind great serving from Cook put the set out of reach. The Cardinal registered a .457 attack percentage and limited its attack errors to just three. The Beavers posted a .125 hitting percentage and tallied just eight kills in the set. and Bai added three kills apiece. Camille Saxton paced the Beavers with four kills.
Stanford completed the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third. OSU jumped out to an early lead, but the Cardinal responded quickly to erase any doubts. Stanford hit .308 in the set and was led by Boukather, Bai and Howard who all tallied three kills. The Beavers hit -.059 in the set, committing seven attack errors. OSU was led by Ashley Eneliko's three kills.
The Cardinal remains on The Farm next week as it plays host to No. 5 USC and No. 6 UCLA. Stanford takes on the Trojans on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and the Bruins on Friday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. Both matches will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
