Durham, NH - Freshman outside hitter Cynthia Barboza collected 13 kills and Kristin Richards added 12 kills and 14 digs to lead the third-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team to a 30-13, 30-12, 30-18 victory over New Hampshire before a Wildcat record crowd of 2,415 at Lundholm Gym on Tuesday night.

"What a great atmosphere for volleyball," said head coach John Dunning. "What a great crowd, and it was good to see so many young people watch the match. Tonight we served and passed really well, and put pressure on New Hampshire. The Wildcats are a good team."

The Cardinal dominated game one, out-hitting the home town team, .500 to .065. Six different players hit at least one kill as Dunning used most of his bench in game one. Stanford jumped to a 5-0 lead, and gradually extended the lead throughout the game. Up 28-13, Barboza collected two kills to end the game. Barboza led the team with five kills in ten attempts.

In game two, Stanford stepped up its powerful offense another level as the Cardinal jumped to a 10-3 lead. The onslaught continued as Stanford then led, 17-3, which led one UNH fan to shout, "stop the fight." Barboza continued to pound at the Wildcat defenders, and collected two more kills in Stanford's 30-12 decision. Freshman Foluke Akinradewo led the Cardinal charge with seven kills in eleven attempts. In addition to Stanford's hitting percentage of .379 in game two, the Cardinal defense looked strong, holding the Wildcats to a -.129 hitting percetage.

In game three, Stanford again started strong, leading 8-1, and then extended the margin to 13 points, 18-5. New Hampshire then mounted a rally, cutting the Stanford lead to eight points at 23-15. But at 29-18, Barboza found a seam in the New Hampshire defense and pounded the ball to the floor to give the Cardinal a 30-18 win and the match.

The Cardinal collected a hitting percentage of .432 compared to .011 for New Hampshire.

Stanford now stands at 5-1 while New Hampshire falls to 0-7.

Stanford now travels to the Colorado Invitational in Boulder (Sept. 8-10).

Cardinal Catalogue: Jennifer Wilson, who made her first collegiate start, collected a career-high four kills in six attempts ... All-American outside hitter Kristin Richards is nearing the 1,000 mark in kills ... With 12 kills on Tuesday night against UNH, Richards now has 954 in three-plus seasons at Stanford ... The Stanford women's volleyball program has announced that at the Stanford Invitational (Sept. 15-17) and matches against USC (Sept. 23) and UCLA (Sept. 24) at Maples Pavilion, monetary donations will be accepted and delivered to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund to help flood victims.

The Cardinal women's volleyball team arrived in Durham, New Hampshire, Monday morning, and then boarded a bus after the match against the Wildcats on Tuesday night to go back to Boston ...
