Stanford Volleyball Post-Semi-Final Press Conference Quotes

Game Recap

STANFORD, Calif. -- Here's a look at what Stanford head volleyball coach, Don Shaw, had to say after the Cardinal completed the semi-finals.

Opening comments: It wasn't one of our better matches actually, but I think Long beach State had a lot to do with that. When we came out of game two with a win and were 1-1, as poorly as we were executing on offense, I thought we had a great chance to win the match if we could just get it going offensively.

On playing Penn State for the third time: We're going to play a lot better than we did last time. We weren't ready for them in August and in the first week of September. I think we are a much better team now. They're the number one seed and its well deserved. We've got our work cut out for us, but we love the opportunity. I knew that they'd be here. It's right where I think both of us want to be--running into each other when we know that there is no game to play after.

On his "supporting" players: Paula McNamee did a great job for us tonight. Kristen hit about 200 points below her average and we just beat the number one ranked team in the Coaches' poll. So there is something else going on out there. It's the Sarah Clarks coming off of the bench and playing outstanding volleyball for us. It's a team game, but sometimes the focus is on those marquee players. But there is somebody out there who's doing something that's helping us win.

Senior Kristen Folkl On her match: I came out a little unfocused and I attribute a lot of my hitting errors to that. I relied on my teammates to get me going and it started to work towards the end. I just know I can't have a repeat performance on Saturday. On MIsty May: She's amazing. I hadn't seen her play in person and she is very impressive on tape. But, I don't think tape does her justice. She's very smart about where she puts the ball. It was great to watch.
