Folkl Named Academic All-American of the Year

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford senior Kristin Folkl was named the 1997 GTE Women's Volleyball Academic All-American of the Year, it was announced Tuesday. Folkl is an Economics major with a 3.46 GPA.

Folkl, the 1997 Pac-10 Player of the Year and National Player of the Year candidate, is enjoying her best season on the volleyball court. She has already shattered Stanford's single-season kill record with 568 and is hitting a personal-best .372.

The defending national champion Cardinal (31-2) plays Long Beach State in a Final Four semifinal match on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in Spokane, Wash.
