Stanford Lands Three On All-District Team

Shaw Named District Coach of the Year

STANFORD, CA --- Stanford University seniors Kristin Folkl and Lisa Sharpley and sophomore Kerri Walsh have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-District 8 Team. In addition, Cardinal coach Don Shaw was named District 8 Coach of the Year. District 8 is made up of players and coaches from the Big Sky Conference, Pacific-10 Conference and West Coast Conference.

Folkl, also the 1997 Pac-10 Player of the Year, earned all-district honors for the fourth time. The honor was the third for Sharpley and second for Walsh. All three players are now eligible to earn AVCA All-America honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 17.

Shaw earned District Coach of the Year honors for the third time (1992 and 1994) after leading Stanford to the Pac-10 title and berth in the NCAA Mountain Regional this weekend at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal (29-2) next faces Colorado in the Mountain Regional Semifinals on Friday at 8 p.m.
