Stanford Volleyball to Host NCAA Subregional
Cardinal Awarded Top Seed in Mountain Region
STANFORD, CA --- The defending national champion Stanford women's volleyball team will open its quest for its third NCAA title in four years on Saturday night at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal was awarded the top seed in the Mountain Region, and the third seed in the 56-team field.
The Cardinal (28-2) will host a first round match between the University of Houston (22-9) and the University of Oklahoma (19-12) on Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m. at Maples Pavilion. Stanford will then play the winner of that match on Saturday, December 6 at 7 p.m. at Maples. If the Cardinal wins on Saturday, it will host the Mountain Regional semifinals and finals on December 12-13.
Stanford has won 23 straight matches, and went 18-0 in the Pac-10 to clinch its fourth consecutive conference crown. The Cardinal defeated Oklahoma 15-12, 15-10, 15-6 on September 20 of this seasn at Maples Pavilion. Stanford and Houston have not met since the 1996 campaign.
Two-day passes for this weekend's matches, which go on sale Monday morning at the Stanford ticket office (1-800-BEATCAL), are $12 for reserved tickets, $10 for general admission and $6 for children, senior and student general admission. Single day passes, which are available only on the day of the match, are $9 for reserved, $7 for general admission and $5 for children, senior and student general admission.
