Anne Wicks Joins Stanford Women's Volleyball Staff
STANFORD, Ca. --- Former Stanford women's volleyball standout Anne Wicks has returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach, Cardinal head coach Don Shaw announced on Friday. Wicks replaces Rob Patrick, who was named the head coach at the University of Tennessee on June 28.
"We're thrilled to have Anne rejoin the program," Shaw said. "She was a tremendous leader for us both on and off the court in her four years here. Her experience as a player and her familiarity with our program will certainly be an asset and will make the coaching change transition a smooth one."
A native of Lakeville, Minnesota, Wicks lettered on The Farm from 1991-94. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker was a three-year starter, and member of the 1992 and 1994 NCAA Championship squads. Stanford was 115-12 (.906) in her four seasons, and won two Pacific-10 Conference titles (1991, 1994).
Following graduation, Wicks has coached 18-and-under and 14-and-under girls teams for the Griffin Volleyball Club in Santa Clara. She has also worked at Stanford's girls and adult volleyball camps both as a coach and administrator.
The 24-year old Wicks graduated from Stanford in 1995 with a B.A. degree in American Studies, and later received a Master's in Education in 1996.
The Cardinal is the defending NCAA women's volleyball champion, and has won three titles in the last five years. Stanford opens the 1997 season by hosting Brigham Young, Penn State and Texas A&M in the State Farm-NACWAA Classic on August 22-23.
