Stanford Tennis Well-Represented Among 2009 USTA Summer Collegiate Team

The Stanford men's and women's tennis programs will be well-represented among the 2009 USTA Summer Collegiate Team, with Bradley Klahn competing on the men's squad and Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette participating on the women's team. The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the top American collegiate tennis players that began in 1996. It is designed to provide college players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months.

The Stanford women's tennis program was well-represented with four selections on the 2009 Pac-10 All-Academic team, as announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.

    Stanford's top doubles team of sophomore Hilary Barte and junior Lindsay Burdette came up just short in their quest for a national title, falling 6-3, 6-4 to California's Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova on Monday morning at the NCAA Championships at College Station, Texas. Barte and Burdette were bidding to become Stanford's first NCAA doubles champions since 2005, when Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette defeated Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey 6-3, 6-4 in an all-Stanford final.
