World Class Swimming on The Farm - Stanford Women Among the Elite at USA Olympic Swimming Trials

Stanford women's swimming has left an indelible mark upon the Olympic Games throughout the years -more so than any other collegiate program in the country. In fact, since 1988, Cardinal student-athletes have won six individual Olympic medals (including a pair of gold medals) either during their collegiate career or within the same calendar year they completed their collegiate eligibility, compared to just three for the nation's other schools combined.

Bound For Beijing: Elaine Breeden, Julia Smit Make U.S. Olympic Swimming Team

Stanford women's swimming has added two more names to its illustrious list of all-time Olympians, as junior Elaine Breeden won the 200 meter butterfly final at the USA Olympic Swimming Trials and fellow junior Julia Smit was chosen for the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay team. Both swimmers will participate in their first Olympic Games when they travel to Beijing, China for the 44th Olympiad. The swimming events are slated for Aug. 9-21.

On the final day of the 2008 USA Olympic Swimming Trials, Brooke Bishop wrapped up a solid eight days for Stanford women with a sixth place finish in the 50 meter freestyle final. A 17-time All-American during her stellar Cardinal career, Bishop touched the wall in a time of 25.16 seconds - just .34 second shy of the second place finisher.

Omaha, Neb.- Brooke Bishop led the Stanford women on day 7 of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials. Bishop qualified for the final of the 50 meter free by advancing through two rounds of heats on Saturday.
