STOCKHOLM, Sweden-- Stanford's Julia Smit finished second at the fall World Cup, netting herself $77,500 in prize money following four more medals in the final competition over the weekend.
Former teammate, Elaine Breeden completed an undefeated run in the 200 fly, setting the U.S. Record on the final leg to highlight six Stanford medal winners overall during the seven city tour of three continents. Breeden finished fourth on the money list with $11,500.
Peter Marshall added two more gold medals, giving him six for the tour and $12,500 in prize money.
In the final event, Smit won the 200 and 400-meter individual medleys and was a runner-up in the 100 IM and 200 back, giving the 2010 NCAA Swimmer of the Year 23 medals, including 12 gold and eight silver.
In the overall standings, Finland's Therese Alshammar was the overall winner, earning the $100,000 prize as she won 15 gold medals and finished with 162 points. Alshammar and Smit each earned an additional $27,500 for medals throughout the tour. Smit finished with 128 points and earned $50,000.
Breeden never lost a 200 fly event, earning $11,500 in prize money from six golds, a silver and three bronzes. She was seventh in points (28). Breeden closed out the cup with a record time of 2:04.26 in the 200 fly, three tenths better than her time in Tokyo and one hundreth better than Mary DeScenza's time in 2008 (2:04.27).
On the men's side, Marshall netted $12,500 thanks to six golds, three silvers and a bronze, winning both the 100 back (50.79) and 50 back (22.38) over the final two days of competition.
Stanford had six former swimmers earn medals-- Smit had 23, Marshall 10, Breeden, 10, Randall Bal, 6, Markus Rogan, 2 and Tobias Oriowol, 1 at the events in: Rio de Janeiro (Sept 10-12), Beijing (October 12-13), Singapore (October 16-17), Tokyo (October 20-21), Berlin (October 30-31), Moskow (November 2-3) and Stockholm (November 6-7). Over 80 swimmers were a part of each event.
