Nov. 1, 2012

STANFORD, Calif. - Fifth-ranked Stanford will play host to No. 23 Wisconsin and No. 7 Texas for a healthy dose of women's swimming and diving dual meet action this weekend at the Avery Aquatic Center.

The matchup against the Badgers (3-2) will begin at 3 p.m. (PT) Friday with Saturday's showdown with Texas (3-0) set to start at noon. Live results for each dual meet will be available at GoStanford.com.

"More than anything else, the team is looking forward to racing again," Stanford head coach Greg Meehan said. "Five weeks without a competition is a long time. The training and academic workload over the last five weeks has increased. Changing the dynamic of what we're doing within our schedule this week has been really nice in preparing for a great weekend of swimming and diving.

"I want our team to have fun this weekend. We only have a few racing opportunities this fall and won't compete again after this weekend until later this month at the Ohio State Invitational. The challenge for us is to perform well on back-to-back days, something we haven't done collegiately since last season's NCAA Championships."

The pair of dual meets will be the first competitive action for the Cardinal since a commanding nonconference win over San Jose State on Sept. 28. Stanford won each of the first five races to open the meet and never looked back, earning first-place points in 11 events behind a pair of wins by Maya DiRado.

The Longhorns defeated Indiana and Michigan in a double dual meet last week in Austin, Texas.

Last Friday, Wisconsin dropped a 183-112 decision to Minnesota.

"Both Texas and Wisconsin are great programs," Meehan added. "They're very well coached and each presents different challenges.

"It's great to be able to compete again and get back into racing mode."
