TOKYO, Japan-- Julia Smit racked up three more medals in Tokyo, giving her 11 over a nine-day span as she was one of four former Stanford swimmers to win gold at the World Cup in Tokyo on Wednesday and Thursday. Other winners included Elaine Breeden (200 fly), Markus Rogan (200 IM) and Peter Marshall (100 back).
Smit, who is second in the World Cup standings with 50 points, won gold in the 200 and 400-meter individual medleys and finished third in the 100 IM. She was a second off from medaling in the 200 back, where she was fourth. Over the last nine days at three meets in the Asia Far East, Smit won six golds, four silvers and a bronze.
Rogan medaled for the first time this season, winning the 200 IM and finishing second in the 200 back. Rogan's accomplishments moved him into sixth place on the men's side.
Marshall added two more medals and now has seven, winning the 100 back and finishing second in the 50 back. Over the last nine days, Marshall has finished first or second in each discipline. He is in tenth place with 19 points.
Breeden won the 200 fly for the third time in nine days, giving her 15 points and an 11th place showing prior to the next meet in Berlin on October 30-31.
The complete schedule for the world cup includes: Rio de Janeiro (Sept 10-12), Beijing (October 12-13), Singapore (October 16-17), Tokyo (October 20-21), Berlin (October 30-31), Moskow (November 2-3) and Stockholm (November 6-7). Over 80 swimmers are a part of each event.
