SHENZHEN, China - Stanford athletes took part in such sport as basketball, water polo, volleyball and swimming in Monday's World University Games action in Shenzhen China.

Women's Basketball
The Ogwumike sisters once again helped pace the U.S. to victory Monday, a 114-68 victory over Slovakia. Once again each in the starting five, both sisters went 6-for-8 from the floor in the contest. Nnemkadi Ogwumike scored 14 points to go with five rebounds and two steals, while Chiney Ogwumike scored 13 points and grabbed six boards.

The U.S. closes group play against Great Britain Tuesday at 7 p.m. local time (3 a.m. PT Tuesday morning).

Men's Swimming
David Mosko, representing the United States, finished seventh in the A Final of the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 8:01.77. his time was nine seconds back of gold medalist Michael Klueh.

Women's Swimming
U.S. swimmer Kate Dwelley finished fifth in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.61. Her time was just 1.37 seconds off of the gold medal winner, Yi Tang of China, and just 0.23 of a second off of the bronze-medal time.

Men's Volleyball
Stanford senior Brad Lawson had 14 kills, 10 digs, and two aces, but couldn't prevent the U.S. from losing a tightly-contested first-round match to the Czech Republic, 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-27, 15-13), in a matchup of undefeated teams.

The Czech Republic (3-0) moves into a tie for the lead in six-team Group D with Thailand, and the U.S. (2-1) drops to third.

Former Stanford star and U.S. captain Kawika Shoji had 37 assists, 5 blocks, and 4 kills from his setting position and Stanford senior Erik Shoji had 11 digs.

The U.S. resumes play against the United Arab Emirates (0-3) on Tuesday at midnight PT, and concludes first-round play against Thailand on Wednesday at 3 a.m. PT.

Men's Water Polo
Stanford's five representatives on the U.S. team helped the squad bounce back from its first loss of the tournament with an 11-8 victory over France Monday.

Janson Wigo scored twice while Drac Wigo and Sage Wright each added a goal in the win. Trailing 7-6 at halftime, the U.S. took control of the contest by outscoring France 5-1 in the third frame.

Jeffrey Schwimer and Peter Sefton contributed to a second-half defensive effort that held the French to just one goal over the final 16 minutes.

With the win, the U.S. (2-1) will play Hungary in Wednesday's medal round at 3 p.m. local time (11 p.m. PT Tuesday night).
