STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford's Maya DiRado was a  national runner-up in the 400-meter individual medley, one of three Cardinal in the 10-woman final as the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year was also third as a part of the 4x200 relay team 10 minutes later.

DiRado finished second to Florida's own freshman, Elizabeth Beisel, who was the world champion five days ago. DiRado's time of 4:37.88 was second to Beisel's time of 4:34.78, as DiRado opened up the first 50 with the lead, dropped to third after the fly, back to first after the first 50 of the back and then remained second behind Beisel the rest of the way. Graduate Julia Smit, who was racing near the back of the pack, finished sixth (4:44.35). Sophomore-to-be Andie Taylor was fifth (4:44.28).

Ten minutes later DiRado swam the second leg of the 4x200 relay, as the Cardinal finished third with a time of 8:08.25, as Athens Swim Club set a U.S. Open record with a time of 7:58.14.

Incoming Stanford freshman Erich Peske won the C Finals of the 100 fly, the first of four Cardinal swimmers in the top-30 in the event. Peske finished with a time of 53.69. Soon-to-be classmate, David Nolan, just missed the consolation title, finishing second and 12th overall with a time of 53.53, three-tenths behind Paul Davis' 53.23. Graduate Eugene Godsoe was the top Cardinal finisher, at fourth, 52.41, .53 seconds from a medal, while Bobby Bollier was ninth (53.45).

The Cardinal women had six women in the top-30 of the 50 free, paced by fourth place and graduate Kate Dwelley (25.27 and fifth place Sam Woodward (25.33). Dwelley was just eight hundreths from third place Kara Joyce's time of 25.19. In the B Finals, incoming freshman Maddy Schaefer was 13th overall (25.69) and senior Betsy Webb was 16th (25.27). Andi Murez (24th) and Felicia Lee (25th) rounded out the Cardinal field, of which five will swim for Stanford in 2011-12.

Alex Coville was a runner-up in the consolation finals of the men's splash and dash, finishing 12th overall in the 50 free at 22.49, behind Cal swimmer, William Copeland's time of 22.26.
