FEDERAL WAY, Wash.-- Stanford incoming freshman Kelly Markle must missed moving onto the finals of the 3-Meter synchro at the U.S. Diving Trials, finishing ninth in the semifinals.
Markle and Kara McCormack, a University of Miami freshman, scored a 483.42. The duo missed moving on by five points, as Maren Taylor and Meghan Houston were eighth with 488.46 points. Markle and McCormack were just seven points from sixth place.
Markle along with McCormack were seventh in the prelims with a score of 244.32, six points out of the top-four. Over the five dives, the duo scored a best of 55.08 thanks to 7.0's and 6.5's on their final dive, a dual inward 2 ½ somersault. The team scored 7.0's or better on four of their five dives.
Stanford freshman Kristian Ipsen and alum Dwight Dumais will both compete in the 3-Meter syncho, on separate teams, in the prelims and semifinals on Monday. Stanford has five affiliated divers set to compete throughout the week in the Emerald City.
The Trials runs through Sunday, with select events on NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus) and NBC throughout the week.
