STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford seeks its 19th league crown when it heads to the 2013 Pac-12 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this week at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. The event will span from Feb. 27-March 2 with live results available at GoStanford.com.
The event will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks and will be aired at 7:30 p.m. (PT) on March 5.
The Cardinal has a rich and successful history at the Pac-12 meet, winning back-to-back crowns in 2010 and 2011 and 13 straight from 1987-1999.
Eight-time All-American Andi Murez leads a talented Cardinal group that features four swimmers who posted top-15 finishes at the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Murez will be flanked by Maya DiRado, the reigning Pac-12 champion and NCAA runner-up in the 200 backstroke. DiRado, a nine-time All-American, owns the fifth-fastest time in the 200 back this season.
Diver Stephanie Phipps, the 2011 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, finished fifth on the 1-meter and the 3-meter at last season's conference championships and earned an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Stanford will be swimming alongside Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Utah and Washington State.
The diving portion will feature teams from Arizona, Arizona State, California, UCLA, USC, Utah as well as the Cardinal.
"We've had a successful season in growing and learning as a group," Stanford head coach Greg Meehan said. "The team has been getting better with its swimming and with its racing. We want to have the freedom to go out and have fun while racing. Not just racing for a fast time, but racing for our teammates and university. That's a great motivator to have some excellent performances."
Meehan will be leading the Cardinal into the championships for the first time at the helm of the program, and notes that he has no preconceived notions as to what to expect from his team during the event.
"I'm excited for us as a team and our entire roster," Meehan said. "Having a great team performance outdoes anything we can do on an individual basis."
Stanford finished the regular season with a 7-2 record in dual meet competition. The Cardinal was ranked fourth in the final regular-season top 25 poll.
