Stanford junior and NCAA record holder Julia Smit is likely headed to her second World Championship event after finishing second in the 400 individual medley on Thursday at the U.S. World Championship Trials.

Kate Dwelley swam in her second Final in as many days at the U.S. World Championship Trials, finishing in seventh place in the 200 freestyle. Dwelley reached the Finals by placing seventh in the preliminaries (1:59.45), bettering the time to 1:58.57 in the Finals. She was seventh yesterday in the 100 butterfly.

Stanford junior Elaine Breeden of the Cardinal women's swimming and diving team has been named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America women's at-large first team, it was announced today. Breeden is one of 15 student-athletes given first team accolades.

Former Stanford head women's swimming coach Richard Quick, one of the most prominent figures in the sport of swimming and diving, passed away Wednesday night at the age of 66. Quick was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumor this past December.
