Stanford wrapped up the 2009-10 campaign this afternoon by dropping a 8-1 decision to the Princeton Tigers in the consolation final of the Howe Cup, being held on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
The match was closer than first glance, as five of the matches went at least four games.
Stanford's lone victory came at the No. 5 position, as Samantha Buechner defeated Kaitlin Sennatt in a tight four-game match, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4 and 13-11.
Freshman Pamela Chua dropped a close five game decision at the No. 2 position to Julie Cerullo. After dropping the first two games, Chua won games three and four, 11-6 and 11-7 only to drop the decisive fifth game, 11-9.
Katy Brewster fell to Amanda Siebert at the No. 1 position in four games, 12-10, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-4.
Julie Koenig came out on the short end of a five game decision at No. 8, losing to Casey Cortes, 12-10, 8-11, 11-4, 14-12, 6-11 and 12-10.
Stanford finished 2-1 in the Howe Cup. After falling to second ranked Trinity College on Friday, the Cardinal scored an impressive victory over sixth-ranked Cornell to set up today's consolation final against Princeton.
