2013 Schedule

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford head coach John Rittman has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2013 softball season. The Cardinal finished 40-19 overall in 2012 and made its 15th consecutive NCAA appearance.

Stanford will take on some of the nation's best competition this spring. The Cardinal will play 29 games against teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament, including conference series' with 2012 Women's College World Series participants Arizona State, California and Oregon. Stanford will also play 24 games against teams that finished last season ranked in the top-25.

The Cardinal will prepare for the 2013 campaign with six exhibition games this fall. Stanford plays host to San Francisco State on Sunday, Oct. 28 for a double-header beginning at Noon at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal will also welcome Sonoma State for a double-header on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Noon and Santa Clara for a double-header on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

Stanford opens the 2013 season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., against Bradley on Thursday, Feb. 7. The Cardinal will also take on WCWS participant Oklahoma as well as Portland State, Cal Poly, Indiana and NCAA tournament participant Kentucky during the opening weekend.

The Cardinal will play its first home games the following week as it hosts Santa Clara on Wednesday, Feb. 13 and the Stanford Nike Invitational, Feb. 15-17. Stanford will face Cal State Northridge and CSU Bakersfield in double-headers on Friday and Saturday. The Cardinal wraps-up the tournament against UC Davis on Sunday.

Stanford will then hit the road again for the Cathedral City Classic, held Feb. 22-24 in Cathedral City, Calif. The Cardinal opens the tournament with Georgia, who appeared in last year's NCAA tournament, and Oklahoma State. Stanford will also face Virginia, Florida State and Syracuse. Both the Seminoles and Orange made postseason appearances in 2012.

 

 

Stanford remains on the road the following weekend, traveling to Fullerton, Calif., for the DeMarini Invitational, Mar. 1-3. The Cardinal will play five games over the three days, including four contests against Big Ten foes. Stanford opens against Iowa and Wisconsin on Friday. Stanford takes on Northwestern and host Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, while wrapping up with its second meeting of the year against Indiana.

The Cardinal will conclude the preseason at home in the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic, Mar. 8-10. Making their way to The Farm for the tournament are Florida Gulf Coast, Minnesota and Pacific.

The squad will open the Pac-12 Conference season on the road at Oregon, Mar. 23-25 in Eugene, Ore. The Cardinal will continue conference play at home against UCLA, Mar. 28-30.

Stanford will then play a mid-week series at Oregon State, Apr. 2-3. The Cardinal and Beavers will play a double-header on Tuesday and conclude the series on Wednesday. Stanford will then head home to host Arizona State in a double-header on Saturday, Apr. 6 and the series finale on Sunday, Apr. 7.

After a bye weekend, the Cardinal will hit the road for a three-game series against Washington in Seattle, Apr. 19-21. Stanford will then play host to Utah, Apr. 26-28 before playing its final road conference series at California, May 3-5. The Cardinal closes out Pac-12 play at home against Arizona, May 9-11.

NCAA Regional action will begin May 16, and leads up to the 32nd annual Women's College World Series, May 30-June 5 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The 2012 season marked the 15th straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Cardinal. Stanford ended the season ranked No. 21 nationally and finished sixth in the competitive Pac-12 Conference.
