STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal welcomes eight freshmen to the squad this year. GoStanford.com will profile each of them throughout the season. In this edition get to know infielder Lauren Donovan.
A moment in my life I will always remember: I will always remember the moment when Coach Ford called me letting me know I had passed the admissions process and would be attending Stanford. I was actually at my friend's house when she called. I was so happy! We climbed onto her roof and started screaming!
Talent I would most like to have: I would love to be able to sing really well. I love singing really loudly and listening to music, but I wish I could do it without hurting people's ears!
Favorite napping spot: In the car. My family frequently takes long road trips on vacations. They like to joke about how I will sleep for a crazy amount like 14 hours with all my naps in the car.
The furthest from home I have ever been is: The farthest I have been from home was on a family vacation to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland a couple summers ago. I loved the scenery and the history of the area.
The first sport I ever played was: I can't remember the first one. I think I just jumped in and started softball, basketball, soccer, ballet, and swimming all in kindergarten. I grew up always in season for some sport and it's been a huge part of my life.
The person I would most like to meet is: Taylor Swift! It has always been a dream of mine to meet her. I have all her songs, and I love her personality. I went to her concert this summer, and it was probably the best day ever!
Superstitions/pregame rituals: My high school coach and teammates had a lot of superstitions, but I don't have any. I think it is good to have a routine for the batter's box, but beyond that I believe in myself, not superstitions.
Since coming to Stanford, I have learned: To cover my bike seat every night! Riding on a wet seat is not a fun experience. It can really ruin an outfit!
Books! I love reading and I have quite a few at home. My collection is always increasing even though I have a huge pile of them I have yet to read. I really want to keep them because in my future house I want to build a beautiful library.
Sports teams I followed when I was younger: My family and I don't really watch any sports, except the Portland Trail Blazers when I was young. We somehow saw every game, if we weren't there in person we watched on TV or listened on the radio. My sister and I loved cheering for the team, even making special cheers for our favorite players.
Over the summer, I: My summers thus far have been spent playing softball, travelling, and visiting family. I am hardly ever at home!
Hidden talent: I took piano lessons for 10 years and competed in some local competitions like OMTA syllabus and festivals. I don't get to play very much anymore, but I love it!
My favorite place on the Stanford campus is: My favorite place on campus is Palm Drive. The first time I visited Stanford this was my first glimpse of campus and I immediately fell in love. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Stanford softball will be fun to watch this year because: Our team this year has the potential to be really exceptional. We work hard and I know we will go far. We'll see you at the World Series!
