Softball Takes Two from ASU

May 1, 1998

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The 15th-ranked Arizona State softball team (34-22, 6-16 Pac-10) dropped both ends of a doubleheader against the ninth-ranked Stanford Cardinal (35-14, 13-9 Pac-10), 4-1 and 1-0 today at Sun Devil Club Stadium.

In the first game, ASU loaded the bases in the third inning, but only scored once off of a Jennifer Gall single. Gall went 2 for 3 with the an RBI. Stanford answered in the fifth when Michelle Schneider doubled in Jennie Foyle who singled earlier in the inning. The Cardinal then scored three more times in the seventh, once on Foyle's single, once on Schneider's single and once off of a Marcy Crouch double. For her efforts, Crouch (12-7) picked up the victory, limiting ASU to five hits with one earned run. Carrie Breedlove (14-13) suffered the loss, giving up 11 hits and four runs while striking out six.

The second game featured a pitchers duel between Stanford's Becky Blevins (20-7) and ASU's Roxanne Tsosie (20-9). Each pitcher allowed four, but Tsosie made the only mistake of the game in the top of the seventh inning serving up a solo homerun to Michele Acosta. That was all the Cardinal needed as the Sun Devils could not produce a run in the bottom half.
