PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Stanford women's softball team defeated UCLA 3-2 in game one of Sunday's doubleheader but the Bruins fought back in game two with a 1-0 victory at the Stanford Softball Complex. With the split, Stanford's record is now 33-13. UCLA is 13-21 overall.
In game one, UCLA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on shortstop Casey Hiraiwais two-run home run. But Stanford came back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, as they took the lead on a two-run home run by first baseman Jenni Shideler. Marcy Crouch took the win for the Cardinal and Becky Blevins pitched the final inning to record her first save. Erin Weiler took the loss for the Bruins.
UCLA's Kim Wuest provided the only fire power of game two when she drove in center fielder Danielle Martin with a double in the third inning. Pitchers Lyndey Gayer and Stephanie Swenson combined on a six-hit shutout with Swenson getting the win. Despite pitching a fine game, Becky Blevins took the loss for the Cardinal.
