Softball Falls to No. 1 Arizona

STANFORD, Calif. -- The defending NCAA Champion Arizona Wildcats defeated the Stanford Cardinal, 11-0, 5-2 on Sunday at the Stanford Softball Complex. Arizona improves to 47-3 including a 13-1 mark in the Pac-10. Stanford falls to 29-12 overall and 8-8 in conference play.

Arizona pitcher Nancy Evans (24-1) threw a no-hitter in the first game of the doubleheader. Evans struck out five while walking only one over five innings. The game was called at the bottom of the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

Stanford junior Becky Blevins (17-6) picked up the loss for Stanford in game one. Blevins allowed eight earned runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out one over 2.1 innings. Senior Jessica Schulman, pitching in relief for Stanford, allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out one and walking one over 2.2 innings.

Arizona pitcher Becky Lemke (17-2) recorded the win for Arizona in the nightcap. Lemke gave up one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one. Stanford's Marcy Crouch (9-6) picked up the loss after allowing four earned runs on 11 hits. She stuck out three while walking four.

Stanford second baseman Jennie Foyle went 2-for-4 in the second game to lead the offensive attack for the Cardinal. Third baseman Shane Anderson hit 1-for-2 with a double and one run scored. First baseman Jenni Shideler went 1-for-3 with a double.

Stanford will travel to Stockton, Calif. to face The University of the Pacific on Wednesday, April 22 at 2 p.m.
