Stanford Sweeps Santa Clara, 3-0, 5-1

STANFORD, Calif.--The 12th-ranked Stanford softball team swept Santa Clara, 3-0, 5-1 on Tuesday at the Stanford Softball Complex behind the solid hitting of sophomore catcher Kellie Wiginton. Wiginton went 5-of-7 (.714) on the day with one run scored and one double.

Stanford jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one following an RBI single by pitcher Marcy Crouch. Crouch singled to centerfield to score shortstop Michelle Schneider. The Cardinal added two runs in the third inning as Crouch hit a double to left field to score Jennie Foyle and Schneider. Crouch hit 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double in the first game. She also picked up the win as the Cardinal shutout the Broncos, 3-0. Crouch (8-4) allowed no runs on five hits while striking out five. The shutout was Crouch's third in as many outings. Krista Barry recorded the loss for Santa Clara.

Stanford scored all five runs in the first inning to defeat the Broncos, 5-1 in the nightcap. Crouch and Acosta each recorded RBI singles while third baseman Shane Anderson added a sacrifice fly. Left fielder Ramona Shelburne's single to right field scored the final two runs for the Cardinal.

Junior Becky Blevins (16-4) picked up the win for the Cardinal in the second game. Blevins allowed only one hit and no runs in four innings of work. Shawnterra Moore recorded the loss for Santa Clara.

The Cardinal improves to 27-8 on the season while Santa Clara falls to 10-30.
