EUGENE -- The 21st-ranked Oregon women's softball team was able to earn a doubleheader split with 13th-ranked Stanford at Howe Field Sunday.
The Ducks jumped out early on the Cardinal in the opening game scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning, while pitcher Jennie Cook held Stanford scoreless for five innings. Oregon would go on to the lead with a three-run fourth and score once in the sixth to collect the 6-1 victory. Jill Robinson, Triawn Custer, and Katie Mackey each had two hits a piece as part of Oregon's 10 hits in the game.
Oregon was unable to find its offense in the second game and could only get four hits in the 4-0 loss to Stanford to earn the split.
"We performed well this weekend and we told the kids that we're comfortable with where we are right now," said Oregon head coach Rick Gamez. "It's tough to sweep California and Stanford because both teams are great ballclubs. We just need to come out next weekend prepared to win four games and its a matter of taking care of the little things and our execution of the short game."
Oregon moves to 31-14 overall and remains even at 4-4 in the Pacific-10 Conference and will travel to Portland on Wednesday for a doubleheader with Portland State, before Saturday's doubleheader with Oregon State in Corvallis.
