Week 5: #11 Lea MacKinnon

Lea MacKinnon

Lea MacKinnon

Lea is a sophomore from Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Ariz. She has played in all ten games for the Cardinal this year and is currently tied for second on the team and fourth in the Pac-10 in the assist category, with three already in 2006. In the season-opener against Utah, Lea notched her first career assist in the 89th minute. On Sunday, the midfielder netted her first career goal, sending a well-placed ball into the left corner of the net in the 79th minute.

Question of the Week: What is your nickname?

"My team calls me `Mac Daddy'. There was another Leah last year so my team decided that I needed a name. First, they called me `Mac' and then they decided to add `Daddy' to it. They make me sing `I like it when you call me Mac Daddy' all the time, whenever they want pretty much. I'm not sure who came up with it but it was probably Shari (Summers) or April (Wall). Some other people on our team also have nicknames. We call Marisa (Abegg) `Boo' and Shari (Summers) `Puffy' and `Kirby' is Allison (Falk)."

The Week That Was: UC Irvine and San Diego State

"We got a good two wins this weekend. It was good to score goals and keep getting shutouts. Our defense is always pretty strong, so it wasn't a big surprise that they did so well this weekend and helped us get two more shutouts. I think we finished our chances better this week. The previous weekend, I think we missed some opportunities and it caused us to lose a game. This week we finally finished, worked hard and got two wins."

The Week That Is: Santa Clara

"I think our game with Santa Clara will be a great game. They've been playing well and just beat UCLA by a lot. We're playing really well too so it will just be a great game. I'm excited for it. It's always a really good rivalry, so I think it will be the same good game as always. It'll be tough, but we'll be fine. It will be a different game than last weekend, just because its Santa Clara and they're always a really tough team but I think if we just go out there and play like we can, we'll do well."
