The Stanford women's lacrosse team has been named an IWLCA Academic Merit Squad, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association earlier this week. The Cardinal, with a combined 3.30 GPA, was one of three Division I teams to be recognized and the only NCAA participant to receive the honor.

The Cardinal was joined by the University of Vermont and Yale University with Merit Squad distinction, while 38 additional teams received Honor Squad distinction. Stanford, a 2005 Merit Squad winner, was the only program to be recognized for the second straight season.

Stanford finished the 2006 season with a 12-6 overall record and a second-straight MPSF title. In May, the team made history as the first west coast team to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
