Stanford, Calif. - Stanford will look to continue its early season success on Sunday, Feb. 27, when it hosts Harvard at noon. The Cardinal is off to a 3-0 start, including wins over No. 10 Notre Dame and No. 5 Syracuse. Sunday, they will face Harvard who will be playing its season opener.
The Cardinal are still ranked No. 13 in the country as the first in-season IWLCA poll will not come out until next week, but Stanford should move comfortably into the top-10. Stanford is ranked as high as No. 6 in the country by Inside Lacrosse Magazine.
Stanford is led in scoring by reigning MPSF Player of the Week Emilie Boeri who has eight goals and three assists for 11 points. Sarah Flynn also has eight goals, while Leslie Foard is second in points with 10 (six goals, four assists). Lauren Schmidt has also chipped in four goals and four assists, all against the top-10 opponents from the Big East.
Defensively, the Cardinal are led by junior captain Paige Farmakis and senior Ashley Aruffo. Annie Read has been the anchor is goal, making 19 saves so far this year. She is currently allowing 9.60 goals per game and has picked up all three wins of the year so far.
Harvard returns five of its six top scorers from a year ago, but is a young team overall. The Crimson have just eight upperclassmen on its 24-player roster. Jennifer VanderMeulen led the team in 2010 with 56 goals, while Melanie Baskind chipped in 32.
